Paul Eckel

Mentor, Writer, Husband, Father and Business Management Professional

Paul Eckel sought after a calling and direction for his life work that would blend his strong interests in business, with his compassionate concern for the poor and those in need.  The profession of Hospital Administration provided an opportunity to pursue both of these passions. In 1972 he graduated from the interdisciplinary Masters Degree program in Hospital Administration at Duke University and pursued a career in management consulting focused mainly in health care.  He was an officer in the US Public Health Service and helped physicians and communities improve their health care systems. In 1976, he joined the faculty of the UNC School of Medicine and taught business management to physicians.

In 1978, Mr. Eckel joined a Duke University classmate to further develop Health Care Concepts, a full service health care management consulting firm providing facility planning, strategic planning, and contract management services to hospitals and physician group practices.  In 1988, Mr. Eckel started his own company to provide a full range of business and management advisory services to healthcare organizations, and related companies.

He has a sharp and intelligent instinct, and an ability to see clearly the bottom line. Also, he sees the difference between what is desired and what is needed.  From this perspective, he recommends and implements effective management strategies. He is an author, speaker, teacher, consultant, and consumer advocate.
